ICE announces first-ever Alternatives to Detention Privacy Impact Assessment
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement published the first-ever Privacy Impact Assessment for its Alternatives to Detention (ATD) programs. ATD programs utilize tools like technology and case management to ensure noncitizen compliance with release conditions while on ICE’s non-detained docket. ATD enables noncitizens to fulfill their responsibilities — contributing to their families and, as appropriate, concluding their affairs in the U.S. — as they move through immigration proceedings or prepare for departure. 🔗Keep reading

ERO New York City arrests noncitizen charged with sexual abuse of a minor
Officers from Enforcement and Removal Operations New York City's Newburgh office arrested a 36-year-old citizen of Mexico. The noncitizen is charged with sexual abuse in the first degree, sexual contact with an individual less than 11 years old, unlawful imprisonment in the first degree and acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 years old. 🔗Keep reading
Fraud alert: Scammers spoofing HSI telephone numbers to target victims
Homeland Security Investigations Kansas City is issuing a fraud alert to warn the public of reports that HSI telephone numbers have been recently used as part of a telephone spoofing scam targeting individuals throughout the country. Spoofing is the deliberate falsifying of information transmitted to a caller ID display to disguise an identity. 🔗Keep reading
Former airman sentenced to 30 years after HSI Norfolk child sexual abuse investigation
An investigation conducted by Homeland Security Investigations Norfolk, the FBI Norfolk field office and the Newport News Police Department resulted in a 30-year prison sentence for a former Air Force service member for a child sexual abuse material conviction. Elliott Velez, 38, of Surprise, Arizona, received the lengthy prison sentence for directing underaged girls to produce sexually explicit material for him. 🔗Keep reading
Federal judge sentences naturalized citizen for lying to obtain US citizenship
A U.S. District Judge ordered Herbert Leonel Diaz, 53, a naturalized citizen of the United States who was born in El Salvador, to serve eight months in prison for naturalization fraud. The judge ordered Diaz’s federal sentence to be served concurrently with the 35-year prison term he is currently serving in California for committing sexual offenses against a child. 🔗Keep reading
