CYBER CRIMES, FINANCIAL CRIMES | HSI partners in investigation leading to 2 arrests for alleged conspiracy to launder $4.5 billion in stolen cryptocurrency

HSI contributed to an investigation resulting in the arrest of two individuals in Manhattan for an alleged conspiracy to launder cryptocurrency that was stolen during the 2016 hack of Bitfinex, a virtual currency exchange, presently valued at approximately $4.5 billion. Read more

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND COMMERCIAL FRAUD | Motion Picture Association, Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment and IPR Center strengthen public-private partnership to protect film and TV content

The IPR Center announced the expansion of their current partnership with The Motion Picture Association (MPA) and the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE). By embedding MPA and ACE personnel to the team at the IPR Center in Washington D.C. and other resources to the expanded framework, the partnering organizations are able to further expand their collective content protection efforts. HSI, HSI Transnational Criminal Investigative Unit, the Guatemalan National Police and the Guatemalan Prosecutor for Illicit Migrant Trafficking led to the arrest of 10 Guatemalan nationals tied to the January 2021 murders of 19 foreign nationals in a human smuggling event in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
