ERO Washington removed Alvaro Johel Angel Angel to El Salvador on July 31, 2019. He was wanted in his home country for aggravated homicide. He departed the United States via an ICE Air Operations (IAO) charter July 31 and was transferred to Salvadoran law enforcement upon arrival in San Salvador. Learn more.

ICE prioritizes the detention of serious criminal offenders and other individuals who pose a significant threat to public safety. Absent any statutory detention requirement, ICE makes custody determinations on a case-by-case basis including the use of the Alternatives to Detention program. The ATD program provides an alternative to detention through the use of technology, is responsible for the care and custody of unaccompanied alien children and families, and provides guidance related to immigration bond management.
