Learn more about Enforcement and Removal Operations
ICE prioritizes the detention of serious criminal offenders and other individuals who pose a significant threat to public safety. Absent any statutory detention requirement, ICE makes custody determinations on a case-by-case basis including the use of the Alternatives to Detention program. The ATD program provides an alternative to detention through the use of technology, is responsible for the care and custody of unaccompanied alien children and families, and provides guidance related to immigration bond management.
