CBP officer indicted, arrested for child pornography

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer charged with advertising, receiving, distributing and possessing child pornography was arrested at his place of residence in Toa Alta. ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), working jointly with the Department of Homeland Security Office of the Inspector General, conducted the investigation that led to the arrest.

Reward for information leading to capture of fugitive human trafficking suspect increased to $16,000

Special agents with HSI announced the monetary reward for information leading to the capture of the accused leader of a sophisticated human trafficking ring has been increased to up to $16,000. A billboard announcing the reward has been posted in Detroit at interstate 94 and Lonyo St., as part of an outdoor campaign to raise awareness of the ongoing probe. Full Story

ICE and Oklahoma-based law enforcement arrest 10 after executing 9 search warrants in Oklahoma looking for evidence of heroin smuggling and distribution

Oklahoma-based law enforcement agents and officers arrested 10 people after executing nine search warrants looking for evidence of heroin smuggling and distribution. The operation was led by special agents with HSI, and included ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, among others. Full Story

Twice-deported Guatemalan involved in fatal car crash that killed 2 men in Indianapolis also faces federal immigration charges

A previously deported citizen of Guatemala, Manuel Orrego-Zavala, 37, who was arrested for being involved in a fatal car accident that killed an NFL player and another man, was federally charged with illegally re-entering the U.S. after having been deported, which is a felony. At the time of his arrest, Orrego-Zavala provided law enforcement authorities with the alias, “Alex G. Cabrera.” But officers with ICE soon learned — through cooperation and information sharing with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department — his true identity was Manuel Orrego-Zavala, a citizen of Guatemala.
