FEMA announced the approval of more than half a billion dollars to help states, Tribal Nations, territories and local governments build community resilience, restore critical infrastructure and invest in mitigation measures to reduce future disaster damage.
The approved funding builds on President Donald J. Trump’s commitment to improving federal disaster support and ensuring taxpayer dollars are invested in projects that protect the safety and security of the American people. The $584 million is being made available through FEMA’s Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities, Public Assistance, Individual Assistance and Hazard Mitigation grant programs for more than 30 states, territories and Tribal Nations across the country.
President Trump is keeping his promise to reform federal disaster support and ensure that taxpayer money is spent only on projects that deliver safety and security to the American people.
These investments will support a wide range of community-led projects, including public infrastructure restoration, flood protection systems and other initiatives designed to strengthen resilience against future disasters.
Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities
FEMA approved nearly $24 million to help more than 20 states, territories and Tribal Nations take decisive and proactive steps to protect their communities from potential disasters such as fires, floods, earthquakes and hurricanes. The goal of the BRIC program is to save lives, protect property and reduce the cost of future disaster response and recovery by empowering states, local governments, Tribal Nations and territories to make smart investments now in resilient infrastructure.
Under the leadership of President Trump, FEMA renewed its focus on infrastructure-related hazard mitigation projects and empowering state and local leaders. By focusing funding on major infrastructure projects and shifting responsibilities to states, FEMA is confident that this BRIC program funding will deliver results and make America safer.
Public Assistance
FEMA approved more than $520 million for critical infrastructure repairs, debris removal and emergency protective measures across the country.
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program
FEMA approved more than $33.7 million to 17 states, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Upper Skagit Indian Tribe to support mitigation programs designed to protect lives and property during future disasters.
Individual Assistance Grants
In addition, FEMA approved $6.7 million for Georgia’s disaster case management program. This grant directly supports individuals, families and communities by connecting survivors who have unmet disaster-related needs with critical post-disaster resources to facilitate individual and family recovery.
These latest funding approvals are part of the billions of dollars in disaster recovery assistance FEMA has provided to support local communities as they rebuild from natural disasters. FEMA remains committed to working with states, Tribal Nations, territories and local communities to build a safer, more-resilient nation and to ensure that all Americans are better prepared for future disasters.
On July 13, FEMA made $3.8 million in federal funding available to help communities address earthquake risk.
Earthquakes can happen nearly anywhere with little to no warning and can cause mass devastation to American communities. These federal funds demonstrate how FEMA is empowering communities across the country to make smart investments in disaster readiness and hazard mitigation before a disaster occurs.
The funding opportunities published span two separate grant programs:
- The Fiscal Year 2026 Individual State Earthquake Assistance funding opportunity makes more than $2.3 million available to states and territories that have a high to very high seismic risk. Recipients will use the funding to fund mitigation activities such as conducting safety inspections of buildings and critical infrastructure, updating building codes to enhance safety, conducting exercises or training to prepare first responders and emergency managers and educating the public about earthquake safety.
- The Fiscal Year 2026 Multi-State and National Earthquake Assistance funding opportunity makes more than $1.5 million available to higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations. Recipients will use the money to develop and implement regional or national earthquake risk mitigation activities such as promoting annual earthquake drills or promoting earthquake insurance in communities at risk.
Both programs are part of the National Earthquake Hazards Reductions Program, which is a broad, federal coordination effort between four agencies: FEMA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, National Science Foundation and U.S. Geological Survey. These federal agencies work in close coordination to improve the nation’s understanding of earthquake hazards and to mitigate their effects.
The application period for both funding opportunities opened on July 13 and ends August 14. Comprehensive information on these funding opportunities, including eligibility criteria and allowable expenses, is available online at Grants.gov.

The July 2026 edition of the FEMA Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) Snapshot Report is now available. This monthly newsletter helps inform FEMA’s non-governmental partners about current events, resource needs and opportunities to support disaster recovery efforts across the country.
The mission of FEMA VALs is to establish, foster and maintain relationships among government, voluntary, faith-based and community partners. Through these relationships, VALs support the delivery of services and empower and strengthen capabilities of communities to address disaster-caused unmet needs.
The needs of communities don’t end when response operations end. To strengthen long-term recovery across western North Carolina, FEMA provided Tropical Storm Helene community liaisons with hands-on training designed to strengthen their roles, deepen partnerships, enhance support for Long Term Recovery Groups and share best practices.
Following the training, FEMA staff met with community leaders from western North Carolina’s Long Term Recovery Groups to learn firsthand about ongoing recovery challenges and successes.
The week also reinforced FEMA’s continued commitment to support the State of North Carolina in building local capacity and supporting community-led recovery.
The July VAL Snapshot Report features additional stories of FEMA's non-governmental partners supporting disaster survivors and communities throughout the United States, Tribal Nations and territories. Read the full newsletter:
