FEMA’s Floodplain Management Division wants your community's input with the National Floodplain Administrator (FPA) Training Needs Assessment Survey, open until September 30, 2024. Click here to learn more and take the survey.
Why take the survey? The survey seeks to determine the training needs and preferences of FPAs and learn about the challenges that FPAs face in obtaining training. The results of the survey will inform FEMA’s National Floodplain Administrator Training Strategy for the next five years. The survey will take 20 to 30 minutes to complete.
Who should take the survey? The community’s formally designated FPA. Only one submission is allowed per NFIP participating community.

As a local official, it's crucial to be aware of any development in your community that violates the minimum floodplain management standards of 44 CFR 60.3 or your local regulations. These violations may be listed in FEMA’s National Violation Tracker (NVT) and could affect property owners' NFIP flood insurance premiums, especially if your community participates in FEMA’s CRS program.  After a disaster, local officials enforcing building codes and floodplain ordinances may need help with inspections, permitting, and code administration. Communities can activate mutual aid arrangements to share personnel, recognizing responders' liability protections and credentials. Section 1206 of the Disaster Recovery Reform Act of 2018 may provide Public Assistance funding to reimburse these mutual aid responders for eligible work. FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) Grants provide funding for eligible measures that reduce disaster losses by implementing long-term solutions to minimize future risks to people and property.
