As Flood Awareness Week approaches and with recent flooding around the state, here are a few resources you may want to share in your community.
Thursday, May 30, 2024, 11 a.m. - noon CT
Find out if structures in your community have experienced repeat flooding due to two or more FEMA Individual Assistance requests and after federally declared disasters. Learn how to request and use repeat flood data for effective mitigation efforts. One hour of continuing education credit (CEC) is approved through the Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) for Certified Floodplain Managers (CFMs®).

FEMA's nationally-run flood insurance training
Share these trainings with agents in your community. This webinar is a two-part course on FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program. Created for insurance agents with CEC varying by state, others are welcome to attend, but CEC is not available. Attendees must complete both sessions in order to cover all topics required by the Flood Insurance Reform Act (FIRA) of 2004.

FEMA made changes to increase equity in the Individual Assistance program by simplifying processes, removing barriers to entry, and increasing eligibility for certain types of assistance. Click here to view a fact sheet about the changes effective for disasters declared on or after March 22, 2024.
A Federal Register notice has been posted about the changes with the opportunity for public comment through July 22, 2024.
The public can review a beta version of the Federal Flood Standard Support website and the Federal Flood Standard Support Tool. These digital resources can assist federal agencies and applicants or recipients of federal financial assistance in the implementation of the Federal Flood Risk Management Standard. Public comments can help enhance the functionality of these resources in future versions, offer insights on potential training or technical assistance needs associated with the tool and provide suggestions for clarifying communication for flood mapping data development methodology.
A Federal Register notice has been posted with the opportunity for public comment through May 28, 2024.
