Free, Online, Take Anytime

NFIP 101: Introduction to Floodplain Management is a great course to take while you are waiting to take a classroom version of the FEMA 0273 course (which may be available in your state, or at FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute with travel reimbursement for eligible local government and tribal participants).

Students are able to take the entire course (14-17 hour duration) at their own pace for Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM®) Continuing Education Credit (CEC), or students can view/review certain sections as needed without earning CECs. This course is recommended for all community floodplain administrators, permitting staff, community executives, and more.

The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) is hosting this FEMA course, and students who do take the entire course will be eligible for 12 CFM® CECs through ASFPM. Note: This course does not translate to any FEMA Emergency Management Institute E/L0273 credits.

Request BRIC Direct Technical Assistance

FEMA BRIC program lifecycle

FEMA is offering Direct Technical Assistance (DTA) for the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program, prioritizing assistance for communities that are vulnerable, disadvantaged, and haven't received FEMA mitigation grant awards within the past five years.

BRIC DTA is designed to give full support to communities that may not have the resources to begin climate resilience planning and project solution design on their own. Through process-oriented, hands-on support, BRIC DTA will work to enhance a community’s capacity to design holistic, equitable climate adaptation solutions that advance numerous community-driven objectives.

Communities send a request through the online submission form that can be found here (Spanish submission form available here). FEMA will select requests for non-financial BRIC Direct Technical Assistance (DTA) from those that are submitted no later than 3 p.m. Eastern time on Jan. 27, 2023.

Click here to learn more about BRIC DTA.
