FEMA Temporary Housing Program in New Mexico

FEMA determines eligibility for its Individual Assistance program, which includes housing assistance. To be considered, residents should only complete one disaster assistance application. Not everyone will be eligible; however, FEMA’s temporary housing options can provide support to residents who qualify. To learn more, click here.

If you applied for FEMA assistance and have not received a response or if your application was deemed ineligible, we’re probably missing some vital information. Planning Your Recovery and Taking Care of Yourself

Mitigation is the effort to reduce the loss of life and property by lessening the impact of disasters. Stated plainly, mitigation can keep natural hazards, like wildfires, flooding, and earthquakes, from having catastrophic impacts.

Specialists are available at Disaster Recovery Centers and on the Mitigation Helpline to talk with you about your plans and ways you can repair and rebuild, safer and stronger.

Disaster Distress Helpline

It is normal to feel sad, stressed or overwhelmed after a major disaster. For adults and children having negative feelings or thoughts, free crisis counseling is available through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) Disaster Distress Helpline. The Disaster Distress Helpline (DDH) is the first national hotline dedicated to providing year-round disaster crisis counseling. This toll-free, multilingual, crisis support service is available 24/7 via telephone (1-800-985-5990) and SMS (text 'TalkWithUs' to 66746) to residents in the U.S. and its territories who are experiencing emotional distress related to natural or man-made disasters.
