Hazard Mitigation Assistance 2021 Year in Review Now Online

FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance 2021 Year in Review is now available.

The report provides an overview of activities and accomplishments and highlights success stories. The report is aligned with the agency’s Hazard Mitigation Assistance Strategic Framework for Fiscal Year 2022-23.

Additional year in review highlights, include:

  • Information on reducing risk through the delivery of mitigation programs. This section provides data and information about the Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities program, Flood Mitigation Assistance, the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program and Post Fire grants, Pre-Disaster Mitigation and Public Assistance Mitigation.
  • Reducing barriers, providing focused assistance to underserved communities and simplifying the mitigation assistance process to ensure our partners have straightforward and equitable access to mitigation grant programs. For instance, Ocean Bay Housing Development was redeveloped following Hurricane Sandy using $560 million in FEMA funding for multiple residential improvements.
  • Building a prepared and resilient nation by ensuring stakeholders have information about programs, tools, training and resources. This includes a robust online library of educational materials.
  • Fostering connections by working closely with federal partners, states, local communities, tribes and territories to help them consider mitigation and risk reduction in all investment decisions.

A downloadable graphic is available that breakdown of Fiscal Year 2021 mitigation funding resulting in mitigation actions that will reduce nationwide vulnerability to disasters and natural hazards.
