The
Big Bend region of Tampa, FL, is growing rapidly. It attracts both young
families and retirees. However, the community is subject to storm surge. As
residents watched people move into the area, they grew concerned about how
their new neighbors could handle storm surge and other emergencies.

Responding
to disasters is dangerous. Recovering from an emergency can also be risky. To
get prepared, Goffstown CERT members completed 16 hours of Disaster Site Worker
Training from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

One
tribe established two youth preparedness firsts in the past five years, and the
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) works to ensure other tribes follow
their lead.
