Rebecca S. Carson has been selected to serve as the new Chief of Staff of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, effective June 27, 2011.
Rebecca has served as the Chief of the Office of Citizenship since July 2009. In this role she has been responsible for leading federal efforts
to proactively foster immigrant integration, encourage United States citizenship, and promote instruction and training on citizenship rights
and responsibilities.
Prior to joining USCIS, Rebecca managed several national and statewide political campaigns. She worked extensively for U.S. Senators Patty Murray
and Maria Cantwell, as well as for the Democratic National Committee.
As a licensed attorney, Rebecca was awarded the prestigious Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) grant in 2007. She clerked at the National Immigrant
Justice Center in Chicago, Ill., where she primarily represented and advocated for unaccompanied immigrant minors.
Rebecca began her career as a community organizer during the 2000 presidential election campaign and between her political work and law school,
taught English in Central America. She earned a JD and Public Interest Law Certificate from the DePaul University College of Law, and holds
a Bachelor’s degree in International Political Economy from Colorado College.
