SUBJ: COAST GUARD MUTUAL ASSISTANCE (CGMA): SUPERIOR AND ENDURING
SUPPORT OF THE COAST GUARD FAMILY
1. During the unprecedented 76-day lapse in appropriations, CGMA
delivered critical financial relief to the Coast Guard workforce
and their families, reinforcing mission readiness and their enduring
commitment for "Helping Our Own." During the 2025 and 2026
shutdowns, CGMA was the only independent non-profit charitable
organization positioned to bridge the gap, providing more than
$3.6 million to over 1,400 civilian employees for basic needs like
food, housing, and utilities.
2. While pay has resumed, the financial impact remains for many
Coast Guard members and their families.
3. CGMA is dedicated to its members in building financial
resilience by offering debt management along with
financial recovery resources for those navigating the aftermath.
