2. This year's theme celebrates the Coast Guard's legacy of
lighthouses and lightkeepers with a spotlight on the iconic
Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The 2026 race will honor the 230th
anniversary of Congress' decision to construct a lighthouse on the
Outer Banks due to the numerous shipwrecks and reputation as the
"Graveyard of the Atlantic."
3. This high-visibility event presents an excellent venue to recruit
fitness-minded individuals and demonstrate the Coast Guard's
commitment to physical fitness aligned with Force Design 2028
initiatives.

will need permissive orders, or equivalent from their command and
will be required to pay out-of-pocket for the trip to/from the
CGM site. Travel costs, meals, and incidental expenses will not be
reimbursed. Volunteers who are also interested in running the
marathon, half marathon or 5K will be accommodated.
a. Active Duty members selected shall be authorized
administrative absence, not chargeable as leave, to support the CGM
per REF (A). Travel and per diem will not be reimbursed.

authorized leave, or administrative absence as applicable,
per REF (B). Travel and per diem will not be reimbursed. Reservists
not on active duty orders may perform IDT for points only.
c. Civilians are limited to 40 hours of administrative leave
(excused absence) per leave year for participation in mission-
related volunteer activities per REF (C). Employees must have the
approval of their first-level supervisor to participate in this
activity. Employees requesting two or more days of administrative
leave must have the concurrence of their second-level supervisor.
Time engaged in volunteer community service activities must be
recorded in GovTA using Leave Type "Admin/Excused Absence", and

used a portion of your available 40 hours of administrative leave,
the balance of the time needed to volunteer for the CGM will need to
be made up using other leave or work schedule flexibilities, such as

(if available) or leave without pay.
