Safety Advisory: Bayou Sorrel Lock Closures at MM 36 Morgan City-Port Allen Alternate Route
- The Captain of the Port New Orleans is issuing a safety advisory for the waters of the Morgan City – Port Allen Alternate Route at Mile Marker 36. This advisory is necessary to protect persons and vessels from the potential safety hazards associated with construction operations on the approach and chamber guide walls and mooring bits. The Bayou Sorrel Lock will be closed to navigation from 7:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Monday through Thursday, beginning on July 21, 2025, until construction operations are complete. Construction is expected to be completed on August 14, 2025, and work times are subject to change.
- The lock will remain open to navigation at all other times. The queue at Bayou Sorrel Lock will be actively managed to assure that no single vessel or tow will experience a delay exceeding 24 hours.
- Mariners are advised to transit at the slowest safe speed to minimize wake while transiting in the vicinity of the approach and chamber guide walls.
