CERTIFICATIONS
A. National Incident Management System (NIMS) Guideline for the
NIMS Training Program, Summer 2020.
B. Emergency Management Manual, Volume IV: Incident Management and
Crisis Response, COMDTINST M3010.24A
1. Many members joining the United States Coast Guard as Active
Duty, Civilian, Reserve, and Auxiliary have certifications in ICS
Positions from responses outside of the USCG. ICS certifications
that are NIMS National Qualification System (NQS) compliant in
accordance with REF (A) shall be recognized by the United States
Coast Guard with the validation process outlined below.
2. Members shall provide their position specific certification to
their unit ICS Coordinator and/or Training Officer. The unit ICS
Coordinator and/or Training Officer shall verify the certification
meets the standard in REF (A) and shall administer an oral board to
validate the member's subject matter expertise in the position
specific knowledge. Upon completion, the unit shall provide an
equivalent United States Coast Guard Type 3 certification.
3. If members have an external Type 1 and Type 2 ICS certification,
contact CG-OEM through the ICS-ProgramCoordinator@uscg.mil email
address and these certifications will be considered on a
case-by-case basis.
