SUBJ: CIVIL RIGHTS AWARDS - NEW YEAR, NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO
RECOGNIZE EXCELLENCE
1. The U.S. Coast Guard and Department of Defense (DoD) partner
annually with National Affinity organizations to recognize military
members and civilian employees who advance and promote equal
opportunity in the Federal workforce. As we enter the new year,
it's a great opportunity to reflect on the achievements of our
talented workforce and recognize their contributions through the
Service's Civil Rights Awards.
2. Coast Guard Civil Rights Awards recognize personnel who go
above and beyond in fostering an equitable work environment,
promoting equal opportunity, and demonstrating outstanding
leadership. These individuals also contribute significantly to
their local community, championing initiatives that strengthen
relationships and promote equal opportunity in underserved
communities.
3. For 2025, the workforce is encouraged to submit nominations for
the following awards when the application periods open:
a. Federal Asian Pacific American Council (FAPAC) Uniformed
Services and Civilian Awards
Eligible: Civilian Employees and Military Members
b. Society of American Indian Government Employees (SAIGE)
Military Meritorious Service Award
Eligible: Veterans and Military Members
c. League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC)
Excellence in Service Award
Eligible: Civilian Employees and Military Members
d. Federally Employed Women (FEW) Military Meritorious
Service Award
Eligible: Military Members
e. National Association for the Advancement of Colored
People (NAACP) Roy Wilkins Renown Service Award
Eligible: Civilian Employees and Military Members
f. Blacks In Government (BIG) Military Meritorious Service
Award
Eligible: Civilian Employees and Military Members
g. National LATINA Style Distinguished Military Service Awards
Eligible: Civilian Employees, Military Members, and cadets at the
U.S. Coast Guard Academy
4. The National Affinity organizations and the Coast Guard release
criteria and details on the application process throughout the year.
Separate ALCOASTs are released for each award and include the
requirements for submitting a complete nomination package to the
Coast Guard. All winners will be honored at the respective National
Affinity organization's award ceremony, held at various locations
across the U.S. For information on each award, including award
