HACK-A-THON CHALLENGE PROBLEM SET SELECTION

1. This ALCOAST advertises the problem sets selected from the
challenge referred to in REF (A), for the Power Platform Hack-a-thon
and asks deckplate developers to begin designing applications.
Thirty-seven ideas were submitted to address operational and
administrative challenges facing the Coast Guard. Thank you to
everyone who submitted an idea for this challenge which can be
found at:

2. The problem set for the hack-a-thon will focus on the following
problem areas: Application to Modernize the C School Training Quota
Management System (TQMS), Industrial Service Order (ISO) Management
Application, and Application to Generate and Route Perfectly
Formatted Correspondence and Awards.
3. The hack-a-thon challenge intends to take advantage of talented
citizen developers to solve Coastie challenges. If you are
participating in this challenge, you may submit an app to any or all
the problem areas. A panel of judges will evaluate all the
applications and vote on the best solution to each of the three
problems. The Coast Guard Deck Plate Development initiative aims to
empower the end-user community to develop small-scale applications,
or µApps ("micro-apps"), using existing Low Code Application
Platforms (LCAP) and other readily available technologies, such as
Microsoft Power Platform/SharePoint, which is found on Pixel
Dashboard. These µApps can increase the productivity of individuals,
teams and commands to better carry out their duties and achieve
mission success without lengthy software development timelines and
expensive contracts.
4. Hack-a-thon submissions shall describe the solution to the
selected challenge related to µApps and capture how they positively
impact the Service. This portion of the challenge closes on 15
November 2024. The best solutions will be selected by a panel of
experts and presented to Senior Leaders for prospective sponsorship
or implementation within the Coast Guard. Formal recognition will
also be provided. Application demonstration is preferred, but
conceptual solutions will be considered. Applications can be
submitted here: at:

5. Hack-a-thon judging is scheduled for 6 December and will be held
via Microsoft Teams Live Event and will be open to all members of
the Coast Guard. Questions should be directed to the Innovation
Program at Innovation@uscg.mil.
6. RADM Chad L. Jacoby, Assistant Commandant for Acquisition
(CG-9), sends.
7. Internet release is authorized.
