SUBJ: SELECTION OF MASTER CHIEF PETTY OFFICER - COAST GUARD RESERVE
(MCPO-CGR)
1. We are pleased to announce the selection of Master Chief (MCPO)
William B. Adams as the 9th Master Chief Petty Officer - Coast Guard
Reserve (MCPO-CGR).
2. Possessing a diverse background, MCPO Adams first enlisted into
the Pennsylvania Army National Guard in March of 1994 where he
attended basic and advanced individual training. Upon graduation, he
reported to his first unit at the 3rd/103rd Armor Division. While in
the Army, he deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in
2002, Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005, and was activated to assist
during two State of Emergencies in 1996 and 2000. MCPO Adams began
his Coast Guard career as a Training Chief in the Shoreside Security
Division for Port Security Unit 307, serving from 2006 to 2012.
During his PSU 307 tour, he deployed in support of Operation
Enduring Freedom in 2008, Operation Unified Response in 2010, and
Operation New Dawn in 2011. From there, his next assignment was at
Coast Guard Reserve Unit Southern Command, where he supported joint
exercises Tradewinds and Integrated Advance. MCPO Adams then went
on to serve at the Special Missions Training Center as the Master
Training Specialist Coordinator from 2018-2023. On May 1st, 2023,
MCPO Adams assumed the duties as the Reserve Command Senior Chief
for Sector Charleston. On November 1st that same year, volunteered
to serve as the Region 1 Supervisor for Coast Guard Recruiting
Command. MCPO Adams is a graduate of the Chief Petty Officer Academy
Reserve class 36, and a graduate of the Senior Enlisted Leadership
Course. In addition, he graduated from the Senior Enlisted Joint
Professional Military Education (SEJPME) courses I and II, is a
certified Master Training Specialist, Firearms Instructor, and
attended Chiefs Call to Initiation in the spring of 2013.
3. The MCPO-CGR position will no longer be a terminal assignment
requiring retirement upon completion, allowing for follow-on
assignments to other Reserve Command Senior Enlisted Leadership
(CSEL) positions. This allows for a larger, more competitive
selection pool, and ensures the best qualified candidates are
selected for this prestigious position.
4. There was an extremely robust and talented group of candidates,
and the future of the Reserve CSEL Program is very bright. We
commend all of the applicants for their continued service, and
thank them for their exemplary performance and dedication to our
Coast Guard.
5. RADM Tiffany G. Danko, Assistant Commandant for Reserve (CG-R)
and MCPOCG Heath B. Jones, Master Chief Petty Officer of
the Coast Guard (CG-00B), send.
6. Internet release is authorized.
