Hwy 13 -'Gilmerton' Bridge -
Emergency Deviation
Mariners are advised that the Highway 13 'Gilmerton' Bridge over the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River, mile marker 5.8, and the Atlantic Intercoastal Waterway (AICW) in Chesapeake, VA, will have reduced clearance height due to mechanical issues. The bridge will only have a clearance of 125 feet in the open position (reduced maximum clearance of 11 feet), until the issues is resolved. Mariners will be notified in another Marine Safety Information Broadcast when the bridge has returned to normal operations.
In the closed position, the bridge has a vertical clearance of 36 feet above mean high water. Vessels able to pass through the bridge in the closed position may do so at any time.
