1. This ALCOAST announces the U.S. Naval Institute's Fall
Conference.
2. Overview. Located at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD,
the U.S. Naval Institute (USNI), a private, non-profit,
non-partisan organization, has provided an open forum for rigorous
debate, informed discussion, thought leadership, and professional
development for members of the Naval Services since 1873. The vision
and mission of the USNI is to give a voice to those who seek the
finest Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard by providing an
independent forum for those who dare to read, think, speak, and
write to advance the professional, literary, and scientific
understanding of sea power and other issues critical to global
security. USNI is known for its flagship magazine, Proceedings,
and a variety of historical and professional books.
3. The Conference. Securing the Nation: Energy Security, Fortifying
the Defense Industrial Base, and Strengthening Infrastructure
Resilience, which will be held at the Jack C. Taylor Conference
Center in Annapolis, MD, on Thursday, 17 October, from 8:45 am to
3:30 pm. Government officials, military personnel, and academic
scholars will delve into the crucial nexus of national security,
the U.S. economy, and the future of energy. They will examine
pressing issues affecting the U.S. defense industrial base, aging
infrastructure, supply chain vulnerabilities, and obstacles in
producing essential war components. Moreover, they will tackle the
significant challenges posed by rising sea levels and more powerful
natural disasters to military installations, facilities, and
critical infrastructure. Among the confirmed speakers is Dr. Daniel
Yergin, Vice Chairman of S&P Global, Pulitzer Prize-winning author,
and consultant within the energy and economic sector.

4. Subject to command approval, attendance is allowed at no cost to
the government. Supervisors should ensure attendance aligns with an
employee's primary duties. Employees who wish to attend for personal
interests may use annual leave, accrued compensatory time off or
earned credit hours (if available), or leave without pay. Commands
outside the National Capital Region may submit no-cost permissive
orders for military members who attend.
