SAFETY/VA – SEACOAST – CAPE MAY TO CAPE HATTERAS - COASTAL VIRGINIA OFFSHORE WIND ACTIVITIES – SAFETY ZONE/CONSTRUCTION/CCGD5 BNM 0412-24
U.S. Coast Guard sent this bulletin at 08/05/2024 12:31 PM EDT1. COASTAL VIRGINIA OFFSHORE WIND (CVOW) HAS BEGUN INSTALLATION OF WIND TURBINE GENERATORS IN THE CVOW LEASE AREA. DURING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, THE M/V ORION WILL LOAD MULTIPLE MONOPILE FOUNDATIONS FROM THE PROJECT STAGING AREA AT PORTSMOUTH MARINE TERMINAL AND THEN TRANSIT TO THE BUILD SITE, APPROXIMATELY 27NM OFFSHORE, WHERE INSTALLATION OF THE MONOPILES FOUNDATIONS WILL BEGIN.
2. THE COAST GUARD HAS ESTABLISHED 500-METER SAFETY ZONES AROUND THE STRUCTURES. SAFETY ZONES WILL ONLY BE ENFORCED DURING ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES, GENERALLY FOR A PERIOD LASTING APPROXIMATELY 48 HOURS OR LESS. ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES WILL BE EVIDENT BY THE PRESENCE OF THE M/V ORION AND/OR ASSOCIATED ATTENDING VESSELS CONDUCTING OPERATIONS IN SUPPORT OF PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED MONOPILES.
3. ONCE INSTALLED, THE MONOPILES WILL BE MARKED WITH TEMPORARY NAVIGATIONAL LIGHTING TO ASSIST IN SAFE NAVIGATION. THE TEMPORARY LIGHTING WILL BE PRESENT FOR AS LONG AS 12 MONTHS, UNTIL THE INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING OF THE FINAL AIDS TO NAVIGATION SYSTEM IS OPERATIONAL.
4. MARINERS SHOULD REVIEW THE LNM FOR FORECASTED SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES, AND SECTION VIII – LIGHT LIST CORRECTIONS FOR UPDATED COMPLETED STAGES, TEMPORARY LIGHTING CHARACTERISTICS, AND EVENTUAL FINAL LIGHTED AND MARKINGS.
5. FOR THE PERIOD OF AUGUST 05, 2024 TO AUGUST 12, 2024, ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES WILL BE FOCUSED WITH IN 3NM RADIUS OF CENTER POINT 36-54-17.356N, 075-22-56.281W.
6. FOR SECTOR VIRGINIA, BROADCAST ONCE DAILY UNTIL CANCELLED.
