SUBJ: COAST GUARD MUTUAL ASSISTANCE (CGMA) ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF
NEW CEO
1. Coast Guard Mutual Assistance is pleased to announce the
appointment of CDR Brooke A. Millard, USCG (Retired), as its new
Chief Executive Officer, effective 26 August 2024.
2. CDR Millard is a 2003 Coast Guard Academy graduate who earned an
M.A. in English from the University of Maryland. She is a Cutterman
with over twelve years of sea time aboard five ships, including
command of the 110 ft patrol boat USCGC GRAND ISLE of Gloucester,
Massachusetts, and as the Executive Officer of America's Tall Ship
EAGLE. She most recently served as the Commanding Officer of USCGC
BEAR and has previously served as Speechwriter for the Commandant
and Vice Commandant. She was the first Coast Guard Federal Executive
Fellow at the U.S. Naval Institute.
3. CDR Millard succeeds RADM Cari B. Thomas, USCG (Retired), who has
distinguishably led CGMA since 2018. RADM Thomas was crucial in
distributing over $50 million to more than 49,000 clients,
significantly shaping CGMA's impact during its most significant and
critical years. Her strategic initiatives professionalized
fundraising, doubled the full-time staff, and grew CGMA's financial
stability from $30 million to $50 million. We sincerely appreciate
RADM Thomas's contributions and wish her fair winds and following
seas as she embarks on her next chapter, knowing her legacy will
continue to guide and inspire CGMA's mission and values.
4. RADM Thomas will depart at the end of July and during the interim
period, MCPO Jason Wong (USCG, ret), CGMA's Chief Operating Officer,
will serve as Acting CEO until CDR Millard assumes the role. MCPO
Wong serves as an integral part of CGMA's leadership team and will
ensure continuity and stability during this transition.
5. For 100 years, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance has upheld its
mission of "Helping Our Own." As the official relief society for the
Coast Guard, CGMA provides vital financial assistance, education
support, disaster assistance, and other essential services to Coast
Guard members and their families. Since its founding in 1924, CGMA
has been unwavering in its dedication to enhancing the well-being
and resilience of the Coast Guard community, ensuring that those who
serve are always supported in times of need.
