SUBJ: 2024 USCG VIRTUAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SUMMIT
A. Coast Guard Office of Emergency Management and Disaster Response
(CG-OEM) Strategic Direction 2023-2025
1. This year's Coast Guard Emergency Management Summit (EM Summit)
will be held virtually May 7-9, 2024. The 2024 EM Summit will build
upon on the CG-OEM Strategic Direction, identified in REF (A). This
year's theme is "Reimagining Emergency Management in an Evolving
Crisis Landscape." The presentations will spotlight the
professionalization of Emergency Management within the Coast Guard,
discuss partnerships, engagement, exercises, and address concepts to
enhance response capacity and resources.
2. Purpose. The unique authorities and capabilities of the United
States Coast Guard are in high demand during incidents affecting the
Nation's safety and security. The Coast Guard is often integrated
into response teams whose members are drawn from a broad spectrum of
public and private sector entities. Fast and effective integration
of personnel and assets into all levels of disaster response
operations is vital to success. It is essential this cadre of crisis
leaders maintains currency and maximizes connectivity within the
ever-changing Emergency Management landscape. The EM Summit is
designed to fulfil this mission through the exchange of ideas and
feedback between field and headquarters-level elements and provides
an opportunity to interact with Coast Guard program managers. The
agenda includes three days of preparedness and response topics,
with multiple sessions focusing on:
     a. Emerging Threats and the Evolving Crisis Landscape;
     b. Crisis Leadership and Responder Resilience;
     c. Exercise Design, Support and Resources.
3. Coordination and Participation. The USCG Office of Emergency
Management and Disaster Response (CG-OEM) is the coordinator for
the Virtual EM Summit. The target audience are Emergency Management
Specialists from Sectors, MSUs, District, Area, and National Strike
Force staff. Due to the shift to a virtual environment, there is no
set amount of quotas and maximum participation is strongly
recommended.
4. Registration. Personnel can register using the Registration
Portal located on the CG-OEM EM Summit site (see paragraph 6). The
deadline for registration is May 1, 2024 to allow for the
administration of the MS Teams group.
5. Summit topics. Due to the EM Summit being delivered in a virtual
format, the agenda with multiple panels and presentations will be
consolidated. Presentations that do not make the final agenda will
be delivered via monthly EM Webinars, hosted by CG-OEM. Topics for
consideration for the 2024 Summit or future EM Webinars can be made
on the CG-OEM EM Summit SharePoint site (see paragraph 6).
