SUBJ: SELECTION OF THE CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER OF THE COAST GUARD
1. I am pleased to announce that the Commandant asked the
Surgeon General to assign CAPT Paul Jung, USPHS, as Chief Medical
Officer (CMO) of the Coast Guard / Director of Health and Safety,
and to be promoted to Rear Admiral (upper half), upon assumption of
these duties. CAPT Jung will relieve RADM Dana L. Thomas upon
RADM Thomas' detachment from the Coast Guard after nearly four years
of distinguished service as our CMO.
2. Presently, CAPT Jung is serving as the Director, Division of
Medicine and Dentistry, with the Health Resources and Services
Administration. CAPT Jung is a public health physician with over
25 years of experience in health policy, health care reform,
international health, health professional workforce issues, and
preventive medicine. His executive skills in leadership, management,
and health services make him ideally suited as our next CMO and I
welcome him as a member of our senior leadership team. I know that
he is personally committed to the wellbeing of our people,
ensuring our medical system provides the foundation for effective
mission execution, and building effective partnerships for our
medical support needs.
3. I anticipate CAPT Jung will assume the duties of CMO on or
about 01 July 2024.
4. Admiral Steven D. Poulin, Vice Commandant (VCG), sends.
5. Internet release is authorized.
