SUBJ: ADVANCED COXSWAIN FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT INSIGNIA
A. Military Qualifications and Insignia, COMDTINST M1200.1A
1. In accordance with Commandant Direction, the Advanced Coxswain
for Law Enforcement Insignia has been approved.
2. Military organizations highlight specific skillsets and
specialized communities through insignia. Wearing an insignia is a
celebration and reflection of an individual's significant
professional achievement. Earning insignias builds esprit-de-corps
while visibly representing professional competence.
3. The Coast Guard Workforce is our highest priority. We are
transforming the way we inspire and develop our people to execute
the mission today and prepare for the demands of tomorrow. With the
development of this new insignia, we will acknowledge those who have
achieved mastery of their programmatic specialties, while
safeguarding the meaning of and standards for such insignia. Earning
and proudly wearing a specialty insignia should be a high priority
for every member of our total workforce.
4. The Advanced Coxswain for Law Enforcement Insignia consists of a
cutlass and flintlock, representing the combat arms employed by
Tactical, Pursuit, and Advanced Interdiction Coxswains. The compass
rose in the center serves as a reminder of the responsibility,
increased authority, leadership, and direction required to command a
boat crew. The Coast Guard shield superimposed on the compass rose
represents the role Advanced Coxswains for Law Enforcement serve in
the prevention and suppression of threats to Homeland Security and
violations of U.S. law. A background of cresting waves symbolizes
the dangers of the sea, and reminds Advanced Coxswains for Law
Enforcement of their ultimate responsibility for the safety and
welfare of their crews.
5. Eligibility requirements. To be eligible to wear the Advanced
Coxswain for Law Enforcement Insignia, coxswains must have
accumulated a minimum of five years as a certified Pursuit,
Tactical, and/or Advanced Interdiction Coxswain. A temporary device
is not authorized.
6. The Advanced Coxswain for Law Enforcement Insignia will be
retroactively awarded to any member who served in the Tactical,
Pursuit, and/or Advanced Interdiction Coxswain community and meets
the requirement outlined in Paragraph (5).
7. Issuing Authority. The issuing authorities for the Advanced
Coxswain for Law Enforcement Insignia are unit commanders,
commanding officers and Office of Boat Forces (CG-731). Office of
Boat Forces (CG-731) is the issuing authority for separated or
retired individuals. Issuing authorities must ensure certification
requirements have been met and supporting documentation is entered
in Direct Access.
