A. Coast Guard Navigation Standards Manual, COMDTINST M3530.2F
1. This ALCOAST announces an update to REF (A).
2. The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)
began raster chart cancelations in 2021 with the intent to cancel
all raster charts by January 2025. Raster charts are currently
being canceled at an average rate of 30 charts per month,
with approximately half of all raster charts already canceled.

National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration website:

3. Coast Guard Cutters must be certified for navigating via
paperless navigation prior to transiting an area with a canceled
raster chart or 01 May 2024, whichever occurs first.
4. Boat Forces units must be certified for navigating via
paperless navigation prior to a raster chart being canceled
within the unit's area of responsibility or 01 May 2024,
whichever occurs first.

6. Boat Forces guidance to convert to paperless navigation is

7. Units may retain canceled raster charts for situational awareness
and training. Raster charts used for awareness and training must
be labeled with the following text, clearly visible in red ink
"Canceled chart. Chart is for situational awareness or training
purposes and is not to be used for navigation."
8. This ALCOAST will be incorporated in the next revision
of REF (A), which will be released within the next year.
9. This message will be cancelled on 15 NOV 2024.
