SUBJ: VOLUNTEER SOLICITATION FOR U.S. COAST GUARD ACADEMY
ADMISSIONS PARTNER (AAP) AND ACADEMY MINORITY OUTREACH TEAM
(AMOT) PROGRAM
1. The Academy Admissions Partner (AAP) program is a volunteer
network dedicated to supporting the recruiting and outreach
mission of the United States Coast Guard Academy (CGA) Admissions
Office. Since 2006, Academy Admissions Partners have worked
alongside Admissions staff to educate, recruit, and assist
the future cadets and officers of the United States Coast Guard.
This volunteer organization consists of 1,305 members, made up
of Active Duty, Reserve, CGA Alumni, AMOT members, parents of
cadets and alumni, Auxiliary, and friends of the Academy. The
AAP is currently looking for volunteers to give back to America's
premier maritime academy by identifying our next generation of
leaders.
2. AMOT is a segment of the AAP program that is comprised of
141 officers, reserve members, and retirees, many of whom graduated
from the Coast Guard Academy. This dedicated group of volunteers is
focused on enhancing CGA's African, Asian, American Indian or
Indigenous American, and Hispanic American recruitment efforts and
retention programs. Over the last several years, the role of AMOT
has become more influential across every Academy Division and has
expanded beyond recruitment and admissions outreach support. Most
recently, efforts have expanded to include mentoring and retention
both at the Academy and within the Coast Guard Academy Scholars
(CGAS) prep program. This renewed direction has had a significant
lasting impact on the overall goal of improving the cultural
competency of CGA and the Coast Guard. In addition to enhancing
recruitment reach, purposeful and lasting mentoring relationships
have been created through the efforts of AMOT members to support
retention of cadets and officers of color, both at the Academy and
in the fleet after graduation. In addition to seeking volunteers for
AAP, the CGA is also seeking volunteers to support this vital
mission. AMOT membership is open to all who are interested and is
sanctioned as a collateral duty for military members.
3. Normal duties that are assigned to Academy Admissions Partners
and AMOT members include in-person/virtual outreach with local
schools, participation at college fairs, the Academy Introduction
Mission (AIM) program, CGC EAGLE events, CGA workshops, CGA Campus
Program events, CGA applicant interviews, and the presentation
of CGA appointments to accepted students. Partners and AMOT members
are required to contribute a minimum of two to four hours of
volunteer service each year.
4. Requirements to become an Academy Admissions Partner and/or AMOT
member are as follows: Active Duty and Reserve members must be in
good military standing and Civilians must pass a basic background
investigation to volunteer. Prospective volunteers registering for
either the APP program or AMOT membership are asked to create a
profile on the CGA website at:

5. Prospective Partners and AMOT members will be notified of
their status via email, and should provide an email account that
they regularly monitor when registering (personal or .mil
