SUBJ: 2022 AUXILIARIST OF THE YEAR
1. I am pleased to announce the selection of Auxiliarist Chester L.
Williams of District 17, Flotilla 24 in Whittier, Alaska as the 2022
Auxiliarist of the Year.
2. Mr. Williams enrolled in the Auxiliary in July 2020. He quickly
immersed himself in the organization and has volunteered to serve in
many positions at flotilla, division, district, and national
leadership levels including as Flotilla Commander, Division
Commander, and District Staff Officer for Human Resources. As the
Seventeenth District's Staff Officer for Human Resources, he greatly
facilitated the enrollment and orientation experience for new
Auxiliarists by developing innovative processes like virtual
citizenship verification and expedited core training completion. He
also made major contributions in numerous Auxiliary mission areas
over the last year, particularly as a member of the newly formed
Auxiliary Investigations Directorate, where he applied his
invaluable subject matter expertise as a criminal investigator to
help the directorate develop its foundational procedures. As a
national Human Resources Branch Chief, he employed recruiting
lessons learned and new mentorship tools in the Fourteenth and
Seventeenth Districts that increased their enrollment by 10%.
3. Mr. Williams was also a vibrant member of his local community.
Demonstrating superb commitment to improving the lives of others, he
leveraged the skills he learned through the Auxiliary Culinary
Assistance training program as a volunteer at a neighborhood food
shelter where he prepared meals for those in need and shared
information about Coast Guard programs to potential recruits.
4. I heartily applaud Mr. Williams' dedication to the Coast Guard
Auxiliary's success during the last year and for his numerous and
substantial contributions to the Coast Guard. He will be formally
recognized as the 2022 Auxiliarist of the Year at the Auxiliary
National Conference in Orlando, FL on August 19, 2023.
