SUBJ: OUR NATION'S INDEPENDENCE DAY, 04 JULY 2023
1. On this auspicious occasion, Independence Day, the United States
Coast Guard proudly joins the Nation in celebrating the birth of our
great State. As we commemorate the historic declaration that took
place 247 years ago, we reflect upon the unwavering commitment of
our founding fathers, who boldly declared the colonies as a free and
independent nation. It is a day filled with immense pride and
gratitude for the freedom we cherish and protect.
2. Throughout our storied history, the Coast Guard has stood tall
as a guardian of our Nation's shores and a steadfast defender of
our maritime interests. From the brave men and women who served
during the American Revolution to those who sacrificed everything
for their country during World War II and beyond, we continue to
remain resolute to safeguard our Nation's security and prosperity.
Our legacy is intertwined with the very fabric of America's
independence.
3. In times of conflict, the Coast Guard has risen to the challenge,
proving its mettle on numerous occasions. During World War II, our
Service faced one of its greatest trials as we fought alongside our
allies against the forces of evil and oppression. The heroic
actions of Coast Guardsmen during the bloody and ferocious
campaigns, such as Operation Watchtower in the Pacific, exemplify
the unparalleled courage and sacrifice that have defined our Service
throughout history.
4. Today, as guardians of our maritime borders, we continue to
demonstrate our commitment to protecting our Nation. Coast Guard
men and women, both on active duty and in reserve, alongside our
dedicated civilians and volunteer Auxiliarists, work tirelessly
to ensure the safety and security of our waters. From search and
rescue operations to maritime law enforcement, from safeguarding
our marine resources to maintaining navigational aids, the
Coast Guard remains steadfast in its mission to serve and protect.
5. As we come together to celebrate this Independence Day, let us
honor the brave Coast Guardsmen who have faithfully served our
Nation, both past and present. Their unwavering dedication and
sacrifice have secured the freedoms we hold dear. We also express
our deepest gratitude to the families who support our
servicemembers, as well as to the veterans who have laid the
foundation for our Service. Together, we stand united, committed
to the timeless ideals that have made our Nation strong, resilient,
and free.
6. Happy Independence Day to all Americans, and may the
Coast Guard's unwavering commitment to protecting our Nation
and its freedoms continue to shine brightly in the years to come!
