SUBJ: MARITIME SECURITY DETACHMENT GTMO CASING OF THE COLORS
1. Today, 13 June 2023, the Commandant of the Coast Guard will
preside over the Casing of the Colors ceremony for the Coast Guard
Maritime Security Detachment at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
2. Since 2002, the Coast Guard has safeguarded critical assets and
infrastructure for Joint Task Force Guantanamo in support of
Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
3. Through countless hours of rigorous training, relentless
vigilance, and steadfast resilience, Coast Guard Port Security
Units and Maritime Safety and Security Teams have upheld the
highest standards of professionalism while executing this
vital mission.
4. Port Security Unit Three Zero Five was the first to post
Coast Guard colors at Guantanamo Bay as the Maritime Security
Detachment. Marking the end of an era for the Service, they
will furl the Coast Guard colors for the final time today and
transfer responsibility for the maritime anti-terrorism/force
protection mission to Naval Station Guantanamo Bay.
5. In the 82-year history of the Coast Guard Reserve, this endeavor
has been the longest continuous deployment of our forces. Please
join me in recognizing the thousands of reservists and active-duty
members whose diligence and sacrifice, for more than 21 years,
have met the national security needs of the Nation.
6. POC: CDR Erin M. Bennett, COMDT (CG-721), at
