MARINERESOURCES (LMR) ENFORCEMENT AWARD WINNER
A. COMDT COGARD WASHINGTON DC 161438Z FEB 23/ALCOAST 064/23
1. This ALCOAST announces and congratulates ME1 Christopher Auman
of the Sector Boston Enforcement Division as the recipient of the
2022 Captain Quentin R. Walsh Excellence in Living Marine Resources
Enforcement Award.
2. As the Sector Boston Enforcement Division's Sector Boarding Team
(SBT) Supervisor, he directed the daily management of four team
members, coordinated mission critical operations to protect the
Port of Boston and strengthened core interagency partnerships
through proactive collaboration. A highly talented individual,
ME1 Auman personally piloted District One's Fisheries Instruction
Law Enforcement Training (FILET) program sacrificing personal time
to deploy aboard visiting cutters to provide continuity, mentorship,
and expertise to Boarding Officers learning and executing District
One's LMR mission. He deployed with three major cutters to conduct
300 hours of LMR enforcement effort that resulted in four LMR
violations, and pioneered a proof of concept that became a best
practice for cutters that deploy to District One in the future.
ME1 Auman also served as Sector Boston's lead Training Officer for
its seven sub-units, providing over 200 hours of instruction on LMR
policy, assisted in 30 sub-unit LMR boardings resulting in over 40
violations, and certified 25 LMR BOs across 10 Coast Guard units.
He left an indelible mark when he assisted the crew of CGC WILLIAM
CHADWICK by coaching their law enforcement teams through LMR
boardings, offering best practices to ensure the cutter's
operational success in District One. His tireless educational
outreach with the Coast Guard workforce and collaboration across the
interagency made lasting impacts and helped align LMR enforcement
efforts across the North Atlantic in support of New England's $17.5
billion fishing industry.
3. The runner-up for this award goes to ENS Gianna Ellis of Sector
Puget Sound for her outstanding efforts executing and coordinating
LMR operations throughout District Thirteen.
4. Honorable mention goes to the following nominees (ordered
alphabetically by last name):
    a. BM2 Trey Grein, CGC HAROLD MILLER
    b. LTJG Anna Morin, CGC ROLLIN FRITCH
    c. BM1 Justin Talley, NORTH PACIFIC RFTC
    d. LTJG Reid Weigleb, CGC LIBERTY
    e. BM1 Robert Zergman, STA MONTEREY
5. The volume of outstanding nominations made selection difficult.
Not all nominees may be aware of their nomination and I strongly
encourage units to publicly recognize their accomplishments
and leadership examples.
6. Bravo Zulu to all the nominees and the many Coast Guard members
who perform this important mission every day. The Coast Guard
consistently relies on our workforce to perform this critical
Homeland Security mission. Your hard work and dedication level the
playing field in the $212 billion commercial and recreational
fishing industry, and help advance efforts to combat Illegal,
Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing globally.
