SUBJ: 2023 LATINA STYLE DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE AWARD
1. Nominations are open for the 2023 LATINA Style Distinguished
Military Service Awards. The awards recognize and celebrate the
accomplishments of women who have enhanced the role of Latinas
in the Coast Guard.
2. The LATINA Style Distinguished Military Service Award is open to
CG service members (active duty or reserve), civilian employees, and
Coast Guard Academy cadets. Anyone within the Service can nominate
an individual who is deserving of the award by submitting a package
as outlined in Paragraphs 6 and 7. The award's period of performance
is June 2022 to June 2023.
3. Service members (active duty or reserve) will be evaluated
according to the following criteria:
    a. Distinguished themselves as leaders, mentors, and advocates of
diversity and the full integration of Hispanic women / Latinas in
the Armed Forces.
    b. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the
Coast Guard's missions.
    c. Are respected by superiors and peers as military and
community leaders.
    d. Represented the Hispanic / Latino community with dignity and
pride.
4. Civilian employees will be evaluated according to the following
criteria:
    a. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast
Guard's missions.
    b. Aided in creating opportunities and careers that support and
contribute to the advancement of Hispanic women / Latin Americans.
    c. Displayed exceptional character and represented the Hispanic /
Latino community with dignity and pride.
5. Cadets will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
    a. Distinguished themselves in leadership and academics and
served as advocates of diversity and the full integration of
Hispanic women / Latinas.
    b. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast
Guard's missions.
    c. Are respected by superiors, peers, and community leaders.
    d. Represented the Hispanic / Latino community with dignity and
pride.
6. Nomination packages must include the following:
    a. Command cover memo, with signature, forwarding the package.
    b. Award Nomination Transmittal form. For a copy of this form,
please contact the Point of Contact (POC) in Paragraph 9.
    c. A narrative describing the accomplishments warranting
recognition, not to exceed two pages.
    d. A citation highlighting the nominee's accomplishments, not to
exceed 18 lines.
    e. A biography of the nominee (a resume is not acceptable) not to
exceed one page.
    f. A head and shoulder color photograph in high-resolution .jpg
format. Unless the nominee is a civilian, the nominee should be in
uniform.
7. Items 6.a. through 6.e. must be in MS Word format, 12-point font,
single-spaced with one-inch margins, and may not be scanned or
submitted in PDF format. Please do not include Personally
Identifiable Information (PII).
8. Nominations must be forwarded as email attachments to the POC in
Paragraph 9 no later than May 23, 2023. COMDT (CG-00H) will review
the submissions and forward the nominations to the LATINA Style
organization who will make the final selections. LATINA Style will
notify nominating officials and awardees of the results and an
ALCOAST will announce the winner(s). The awards winner(s) will be
recognized during the 20th Annual National LATINA Symposium
Distinguished Military Service Award Program in Arlington, VA on
September 21, 2023.
