The Coast Guard Office of Bridge Programs has an announcement—we’re hiring! Are you interested in joining our small, but mighty Permit and Policy Division as a Coast Guard civil servant? Then check out this usajobs.gov posting for a position based in Washington, D.C. The announcement will be open for submissions from March 20th to March 30th, 2023.

As a Bridge Management Specialist, you will be responsible for final review and evaluation of District Commander’s findings, conclusions and recommendations concerning the impacts of proposed bridge projects on navigation and the environment, providing advice and assistance to the Coast Guard district bridge staff, and effectively discharging the Coast Guard bridge permit statutory and operational obligations under the Bridge Program.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Providing expert technical advice in reviewing and processing recommendations for the issuance or denial of permits for bridge projects.
  • Drafting legal permit documents which approve the location and plans of bridge projects.
  • Preparing letters of denial of permits when applicable.
  • Providing program personnel with expert written and oral guidance, statutory interpretation, training, and counseling on issues related to the permit function.
