1. This message solicits active duty E4s (w/ E5 EPQs completed) and
E5s interested in entering the Diver (DV) rating. Prior diving
experience is not needed and members need not be tour complete.
Applicants must meet all eligibility requirements IAW reference (B)
Chapter 3 and reference (D) Chapter 6.A.1. Those applicants who
successfully screen at the Dive Candidate Screener (DCS) and are
selected will attend DV A-School at Naval Diving and Salvage Training
Center (NDSTC). Members who graduate from DV A-School will change in
rating to DV IAW Reference (B).
2. Application: Members need to submit a diver application package
via email (encrypted) to the DV A-School Chief Thomas.C.Hansen@uscg.mil
and CC the DV RFMC at Thomas.R.Hill@uscg.mil no later than 05 May 2023.
The Diver Application process and templates are available at reference
(C). The application package consist of the following:
a. Diver candidate screener and Change in Rating request with
Command Endorsement.
b. Physical Screening Test (PST) Results (CG-3150B).
c. Report of Medical History (DD FORM 2807-1 OCT 2018).
d. Diver Candidate Pre-Screener Questionnaire.
e. Member Information Report from Direct Access.
3. Command Endorsement: Shall only contain confirmation of member’s
eligibility, recommendation of approval to attend DCS and CIR,
verification of PST requirements and list any backfill concerns.
No additional narrative.
4. Physical Fitness Requirements: At a minimum, all applicants must
successfully pass the PST. Applicants are encouraged to perform the
PST utilizing personal MAX effort in order to remain competitive
throughout the application process. Minimum PST requirements as well
as an instructional video outlining the administration process of the
Diver PST are available at reference (C).
5. Medical Screening: Candidates must complete DD FORM 2807-1
(Report of Medical History) and the Diver Candidate Pre-Screener
Questionnaire for inclusion in the diver application package.
Candidates shall use the forms located in reference (C). A completed
Diving medical exam (DD FORM 2808) is not required for initial
application and will only be performed if a member is selected to attend
DV A-School. Further guidance for receiving a diving medical exam will
be performed upon successful completion of the Diver Candidate Screener
and prior to attending DV A-School.
6. Initially screened members are required to attend the Diver
Candidate Screener (DCS) which will be conducted at USCG Recruit
Training Center Cape May prior to being selected to attend DV
A-School. The screening will include classroom and physical fitness
activities that simulate diver training at NDSTC. The screening is
physically challenging, and candidates should ensure they are well
prepared and in superior physical fitness condition prior to attending.
7. Timeline:
a. 05 May 2023: DV Application Packages are due to
Thomas.C.Hansen@uscg.mil and Thomas.R.Hill@uscg.mil
b. OOA 01 Aug 2023: Member and command notification of
approval/disapproval of eligibility to attend Diver Candidate Screener.
c. OOA 05 Aug 2023: Member TDY orders issued for Diver Candidate
Screener.
d. 10 Sep – 15 Sep 2023: Diver Candidate Screener
e. 16 Sep 2023: Members return to their unit
f. OOA 02 Oct 2023: Selected Candidates Command notifications made.
g. TBD: Selected members receive orders to attend DV “A” School
Class convening dates spring/summer 2024.
8. Selection results to attend DCS will be delivered via e-mail from
DV RFMC or DV-A-school Chief. Results from CIR will be delivered via EPM.
