SUBJ: 2023 SOCIETY OF AMERICAN INDIAN GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES (SAIGE)
MILITARY MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD
1. Nominations are now open for the 2023 Society of American Indian
Government Employees (SAIGE) Military Meritorious Service Award.
2. The annual recognition honors members of the military (active
duty and reserves) and government employed military veterans who
have made significant contributions in government service according
to the criteria below during the performance period of January 1,
2022 to December 31, 2022.
a. Promoted a positive image of American Indian/Alaskan Natives
(AI/AN) in government service.
b. Contributed and encouraged a greater understanding of the
AI/AN culture through activities, both on and off duty.
c. Supported federal, state, local, or tribal interactions with
AI/AN people, tribes or events and activities.
d. Reflected attributes best epitomizing the qualities and Core
Values of the Coast Guard.
3. Anyone within the Coast Guard may nominate an individual for the
SAIGE Military Meritorious Service Award by requesting an Award
Nomination Form from the POC in Paragraph 7 and submitting a
nomination package as outlined in Paragraph 4.
4. Nomination packages must include the following:
a. Command cover memo, with signature, forwarding the package.
b. Completed Award Nomination Transmittal Form.
c. Narrative, not to exceed two pages, describing the nominee's
accomplishments regarding award criteria noted in Paragraph 3.
d. Citation, not to exceed 12 lines, highlighting the
accomplishments of the nominee.
e. Biography of the nominee, not to exceed one page, single-
spaced, including the nominee’s tribal membership or AI/AN ancestry,
if applicable.
f. Digital photograph of the nominee in .jpg format.
g. For nominations of a veteran, include a statement attesting
that the veteran separated from service under honorable conditions
within the Award Nomination Transmittal Form.
5. Nomination packages must be forwarded as email attachments to the
POC in Paragraph 8 no later than April 3, 2023. Submissions must be
in MS Word .docx format, single-spaced, 12-point font, and 1-inch
left and right margins and must not include Personally Identifiable
Information (PII).
6. COMDT (CG-00H) will send all nominations to SAIGE for
consideration and final selection and will notify commands of award
winners prior to announcement via ALCOAST. SAIGE will recognize
award winners at the National Training Program on June 21, 2023, in
Tulsa, OK.
