SUBJ: EXPANSION OF CG MUTUAL ASSISTANCE (CGMA) SUPPLEMENTAL
EDUCATION GRANT (SEG)
1. The CGMA Board of Directors has authorized a significant
expansion to the CGMA Supplemental Education Grant (SEG). The SEG
provides reimbursement funding to cover the cost of course materials
such as books, fees, and study guides for advanced education courses
including accredited college and Vo-Tech programs. Effective 1
January 2023 the annual SEG maximum will be increased from $500 per
calendar year to $1000 per calendar year. The SEG remains available
to all Active Duty, reservists, Coast Guard Civilian Employees,
Auxiliarists, and retirees.
2. Additionally, the SEG may now be used to cover the costs for
computers and laptops, as well as participation in advanced
education qualification tests such as the LSAT or MCAT. All other
requirements for reimbursable items and eligibility remain the same.
3. The SEG is CGMA's most well-known education program, however
there are also several other CGMA Education Programs available to
members.
    a. CGMA Education Programs include the Education Loan which
provides up to $3,000 per student as an interest-free loan.
    b. Free tutoring through Tutor.com/military is available for all
students in a member's family from grade school to graduate level.
Sessions by vetted tutors can be accessed 24/7 in over 80 subjects,
many available in Spanish.
    c. The Education Advocate Grant provides up to a $500 grant for
the cost of an advocate's assistance with a new (IEP) or (IFSP).
