SUBJ: SILVER ANCIENT MARINER SELECTION
1. I am pleased to announce the selection of BMCM Michael Burch
as the fifteenth Silver (Enlisted) Ancient Mariner since the
inception of the program in 1978. BMCM Burch will assume the title
of Silver Ancient Mariner from DCCM Russell Cox during a
ceremony at the Coast Guard Yard in Baltimore, MD, on
12 Aug 2022.
2. BMCM Burch is currently Officer in Charge onboard CGC PATOKA
(WLR-75408) in Greenville, MS. He previously served aboard
CGC MALLET (WLIC-75304), CGC PIKE (WPB-87365),
CGC COBIA (WPB-87311), and CGC SAGINAW (WLIC-803).
3. The Ancient Mariner title recognizes the officer and enlisted
person with the earliest designation as a permanent cutterman and
requires a minimum of ten years of sea time. The award recipients
must personify and uphold the core values of honor, respect and
devotion to duty, along with the professionalism and leadership
associated with long service at sea.
