1. This ALCOAST formally announces the establishment of Reserve
Aviator officer positions as part of the Reserve Component. The
Reserve Aviator positions join the existing Reserve enlisted ground
maintenance positions as part of the Reserve Aviation workforce with
positions offered at CG Air Stations, ATC Mobile, and Chief of Naval
Air Training (CNATRA) commands. This workforce is designed to
create an aviation surge and mobilization capability, retain
aviation expertise, and develop an aviation career path in the
Reserve.
2. Major Duties and Responsibilities: All Reserve Aviators shall
seek to maintain their flight designations and qualifications at
the highest level, specifically to maintain the Aircraft Commander
designation and the Advanced SAR Qualification. This program goal
does not restrict Commanding Officers from setting or adjusting
designations and qualifications IAW REF (A) Chapter 7.A.1.
Furthermore, it encourages units to develop a flexible reserve
aviation workforce to support mission requirements and maximize
training capabilities unique to individual units. Flight operations
shall be conducted IAW REF (A) or REF (B), and local unit standard
operating procedures. Reserve Aviators are required to maintain Duty
Involving Flying Operations (DIFOPS) semi-annual minimums in all
assigned maneuvers and complete all annual proficiency and
standardization requirements IAW REF (A) or REF (B). In addition to
flight duty, Reserve Aviators may be required to perform other
aviation operations or aviation training duties, as directed by CG
Air Station, ATC Mobile, or CGLO Pensacola. Reserve Aviators shall
participate in Command sponsored aviation safety events.
3. Drill Requirements: Reserve Aviators shall drill per the
guidelines set by COMDT (CG-R8) and applicable SELRES requirements
IAW REF (E). In addition, Reserve Aviators will drill utilizing
Additional Flight Training Periods (AFTP) IAW REF (F) to achieve a
minimum of 60 calendar days of flight duty annually.
4. Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
a. Current or previous designation as a USCG Aircraft Commander
IAW REF (A).
b. All Reserve Aviators must have separated from Active Duty, or
have an approved separation on file, no earlier than 01 OCT 2021.
c. All Reserve Aviators seeking assignment to a CNATRA command
must possess previous NATRACOM instructor experience and shall have
flown in an instructional sortie in type/model/series within the
past 365 days IAW REF (C).
d. All Reserve Aviators shall have a minimum of 750 hours as
Pilot- in-Command (PIC) of a military aircraft.
e. All Reserve Aviators shall have a minimum of 1500 total hours
in a military aircraft.
f. A Coast Guard or DoD flight physical will be required prior
to the assumption of flight duties.
g. All Reserve Aviators shall be meet C School eligibility
requirements IAW REF (G).
5. Training Availability and Requirements: Transition courses will
not be offered for USCG or USN aircraft. Requalification courses may
be offered to support the needs of the Coast Guard. Failure to
complete annual and semi-annual training requirements shall be
handled IAW REF (A) or REF (B).
6. Training Capacity Limits: COMDT (CG-711) has established training
capacity limits for all airframes and units. The limits will be
validated annually by COMDT (CG-711), ATC Mobile, and COMDT (CG-R5).
The limits are designed to offer future opportunities for Active
Duty personnel to transition to the Reserve.
7. AY22 Reserve Aviator Positions: The following subparagraphs
provide position descriptions of the billets that will be available
to RPM-2 for assignment in AY22.
a. CG Reserve Aviator: Responsible for safe and effective ops of
CG aircraft and aircrew flying demanding SAR, LE, PWCS, MEP and
authorized missions. Maintains medical readiness, currency
requirements as described in REF (A) and REF (F). On Scene
Coordinator (OSC) for SAR & LE tasking, maintains proficiency in
all wx-ops, stands 24-hr alert duty.
b. ATC Mobile - Reserve Stan Instructor Pilot: Conducts
classroom, simulator, and in-flight instruction of USCG
student pilots and fleet pilots. Develops, designs, and
implements tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) for
the fleet. Maintains Medical Readiness, currency requirements
as described in REF (A) and REF (F). Supports ATC Mobile
Operations Department or CG Air Stations with flight support
as directed by ATC Mobile Training Department.
c. DDE Aviation Instructor - CNATRA Advanced or Primary
Flight Training Instructor Pilot: Conducts classroom, and
in-flight instruction of USN, USMC, USCG, & International
Student Naval Aviators. Mentors USCG student pilots.
Pilot-in-Command of Navy training aircraft. Maintains Medical
Readiness, currency requirements as described in REF (B),
including the 90 day flight currency.
8. Selection Criteria: There are a limited number of billets
available for assignment in AY22. Factors such as airframe,
designation and qualifications, total flight time, and a
candidate’s performance in the aviation specialty will be
considered in the assignment process. RPM-2 will assign the
best qualified candidates and offer positions based on program
guidance IAW PSC business rules.
9. Application Process: Applicants qualified for the Reserve
Aviator program shall submit an eResume via Direct Access IAW
the following guidelines.
a. Apply for position number: 00051506
b. Use the member comments section to indicate ATC Mobile,
NAS Corpus Christi, NAS Pensacola or a specific CG AIRSTA as your
preferred drill unit.
c. The eResume application period is 07MAR2022 to 20MAR2022.
d. Qualified candidates who do not have access to Direct Access
shall contact RPM-2 discuss submission of a CG-2002 form as an
alternate application process to Direct Access.
e. Waiver requests to the minimum eligibility may be submitted

10. The Office of Aviation Forces (CG-711) retains overall authority
for the program. All administrative oversight and support will be
provided by the unit’s administrative staff, with reserve program
guidance provided by the respective District Reserve Force Readiness
Branch (dxr), Sector Reserve Force Readiness System (RFRS) staff, or
the applicable CNATRA Reserve Component.
