SUBJ: VIRTUAL EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIAN RECERTIFICATION TRAINING
PROGRAM LAUNCH
A. FC-T Policy Memo 01-21 - Remote Training Permanency
1. FORCECOM is excited to announce the final transition of the
Emergency Medical Technician Recertification (EMT-R) training
program from resident to remote delivery. This message provides
guidance to qualified Coast Guard EMTs seeking recertification.
2. In the summer of 2020, the EMT-R course began a two-phase
transition from a resident class to a remote training program.
The goal of the first phase was to provide live-remote,
instructor-led training to members whose certification expired
in March 2021. The four-day class was delivered 16 times and
enabled 331 students to recertify. The second phase, which had a
quiet launch on 01FEB22, provides live-remote, instructor-led
training to all Coast Guard EMTs in need of recertifying, in a
manner that removes historic barriers imposed by quota allowances,
classroom sizes, and scheduling conflicts.
3. All information related to this new program is located at the
links provided in paragraph 4 of this message. The following is
a brief program summary:
a. Modular Lessons. Provides maximum flexibility to the
student, offering a set of ten, two-hour course modules on a
rotating schedule. Students attend lessons as unit operations
allow, without orders, attending all ten modules to achieve course
completion.
b. CG TEAMS. All lessons will be delivered remotely using the
standard Microsoft TEAMS platform.
c. Attendance Tracking. After attending a live lesson, students
will be directed to online knowledge quizzes, which must be
completed to record completion of a live lesson. Once all ten
modules are complete, students will submit their transcripts and
test results to the Training Center Petaluma EMT Schoolhouse to
receive completion certificates.
d. On-demand Resources. All course resources are available on
MilSuite. In addition, a mailbox has been established for students
to contact the EMT-R instructor staff.
e. Skills Verification. Skills previously assessed in-resident
will now be assessed at or near a member's home unit, carried out
by competent authority and supported by EMT Schoolhouse instructors.
Skills verification details are available in the EMT-R Remote
Training Guide.
f. Submitting Recertification Package. The Remote Training Guide
provides an outline for recording completions, updating your
military record and updating the National Register of Emergency
Medical Technicians database. HS rated personnel shall affiliate
with HSWL-SC. All other ratings shall affiliate with US Coast Guard
EMS School/Petaluma. Both affiliations are located under the US
Department of Homeland Security (Agency State).
