1. This ACN announces immediate changes to REFs (A) and (B),
and is in alignment with the Commandant's Guiding Principle of
READY as denoted in REF (C). These changes further the Coast
Guard's commitment to providing workplace flexibility for
Coast Guard members and their families in support of a
mission-ready total workforce.
2. Article 1.A.6.b.(1) of REF (A) is amended to read: "During
pregnancy and for 12 months after childbirth, the service defers
assigning otherwise eligible pregnant women on CONUS shore duty to
shipboard or OCONUS assignments, unless they volunteer for
earlier rotation to a shipboard or OCONUS tour. Members who
volunteer for such assignments where subsequent deployment is
likely must waive in writing the prohibition on deployment in
Article 1.A.6.b.(11)."
3. Article 1.A.6.b.(11) of REF (A) is added to read:
"Post-partum Active Duty members will not be deployed for up to
12 months from the date of a birth event unless the member elects
such orders, and is cleared by a Coast Guard medical officer and
with approval from the first O-6/GS-15 in the chain of command."
4. Article 1.A.6.b.(12) of REF (A) is added to read:
"A Post-partum Active Duty member may elect PCS or voluntary
mobilization orders to a unit likely to deploy within the 12
months following a birth event only if cleared by a Coast Guard
medical officer and with approval from the first O-6/GS-15 in
the chain of command. A member who volunteers for PCS or
mobilization orders where subsequent deployment is likely must
waive in writing the prohibition on deployment in
Article 1.A.6.b. (11)."
5. In Article 7.c.(2) (a) 2.b. of REF (B), the first sentence is
amended to read: "Resumption of deployments, requirement to pass
physical fitness standard tests, or assignment to cutter or
OCONUS duties will not be made for a period of 12 months
post-partum unless cleared by a Coast Guard medical officer and
with approval from the first O-6/GS-15 in the chain of command."
6. Article 7.c.(2)(a)5.c. of REF (B) is amended to read:
"Post-partum Reserve members will not be involuntarily
mobilized for up to 12 months from the date of a birth event.
A post-partum Reserve member may elect voluntary mobilization
orders if cleared by a Coast Guard medical officer and with
approval from the first O-6/GS-15 in the chain of command."
7. Policies and standards in REFs (A) and (B) not specifically
addressed in this ACN remain unchanged. These changes will be
incorporated into the next revision of REFs (A) and (B), which
will be released within the next year.
