SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard is scheduled to hold a rededication ceremony Friday for the New Point Loma Lighthouse in the Cabrillo National Park.

The lighthouse ran on a temporary power system from April 2017 to March of 2020. Coast Guard members have been refurbishing the lighthouse for approximately three years, spending over $2 million to restore this navigational aid.

The rededication is the official recognition of the light station's service career and honors its history as a Coast Guard navigational aid. This event was scheduled last year, but was postponed due to COVID-19.

The light was first lit in March of 1891 and the event coincides with the fourth anniversary of San Diego becoming a Coast Guard city.
