NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard is hosting a media availability Thursday to educate local audiences on boating safety during National Safe Boating Week 2021.

Coast Guard members will be available to provide on-camera interviews on boating safety at Coast Guard Station New Orleans, and will also provide a demonstration of a search and rescue drill.

National Safe Boating Week is a program of the North American Safe Boating Campaign. National Safe Boating Week runs from May 22, 2021 to May 28, 2021 and aims to spread boating safety messages, encourages boater education and helps to save lives. The campaign produces a variety of safe boating information intended to enhance and supplement the individual campaigns that take place through groups, associations and organizations across the United States and Canada during National Safe Boating Week.

Editor's Note: The SAR demonstration will take place at 10:30 a.m., but the station will be open during the day for on-camera interviews. Media planning to visit the station should RSVP to Eighth Coast Guard District public affairs by calling 618-225-9008 or emailing USCoastGuardHeartland@gmail.com no later than 8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitors who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask. This event is not open to the public.
