SUBJ: GENERAL MESSAGE FILE (GMF) TRANSITION TO COMMAND AND CONTROL OFFICIAL
INFORMATION EXCHANGE (C2OIX) AND CHANGES TO THE GMF PORTAL PAGE
1. On 01 Jan 21, the Coast Guard will begin transmitting the General Message
File (GMF) messages over the Command and Control Official Information Exchange
(C2OIX) record messaging system. This change is being made to support the limited
IP connectivity which often prevents afloat units from being able to access
the CG Portal. Messages include ALCOASTS, ALCOAST COMDT NOTICES, ALCGPSC, ALCGENL,
ALCGOFF, ALCGFINANCE, ALCGRECRUITING, ALCGRSV, ALSAFETY, and OFCOs. This
change will enable the afloat community to receive general messages while underway
through C2OIX or the Naval Modular Automated Communication System (NAVMACS)/Broadcast
for NAVMACS equipped platforms.
2. The Navy changed the C2OIX settings for all Coast Guard afloat
units so that units will automatically receive the General Messages. If an afloat
unit finds it is not receiving the messages or if a shore unit wants to receive
General Messages via C2OIX, the unit C2OIX Organizational Administrators (Org Admin)
should take the following actions:
a. Log into C2OIX as the unit Org Admin.
b. Select Manage Orgs.
c. Click on your organization name.
d. In the GMF Options box, click the box to the left of
"Include GMF Distribution."
e. Click the Filter button to list available GMF.
f. Hold Ctrl and select desired GMF (CG GMF are listed in paragraph 1).
g. Click the Add button to move the selections into the active window
on the right.
h. Click OK at the top of the page to save.
3. GMF messages will continue to be posted on the Coast Guard Portal under References
after transmission over C2OIX.
4. The GMF Coast Guard Portal page was recently revised. Archived folders for each
GMF type were added. Messages that are no longer relevant now reside in the
Archived folders. This change was done to easily identify which messages
are still applicable to Coast Guard personnel. In addition, the 001/21 message
for each GMF category will contain a list of all messages that are still
applicable to Coast Guard personnel.
5. The POC for this effort is Ms. Sonia Kendall, Sonia.L.Kendall@uscg.mil, 202-475-3647.
6. RADM Dave Dermanelian, Assistant Commandant for Command, Communications, Computers
and Information Technology (CG-6), sends.
7. Internet release is authorized.
