SUBJ:  SELECTION OF THE SPECIAL COMMAND AIDE OF THE YEAR
A. COMDT COGARD WASHINGTON DC 021032 JUL 20/ALCOAST 260/20
1. IAW REF (A), a selection board convened on 28 September 2020 to review
nominations for the 2020 Special Command Aide (SCA) of the Year. I am pleased
to announce that CSC John Jeffries, SCA to GEN Milley, Chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staff, is this year’s winner.
2. CSC Jeffries distinguished himself through noteworthy leadership, superior
job performance, self-improvement, community involvement and exemplary commitment
to our Core Values.
3. CSC Jeffries will be nominated for Inter-Service Enlisted Aide of the Year and
compete in a virtual selection board against enlisted aides from each of the
other Services. The virtual panel members will include former Chairmen of the
Joint Chiefs of Staff and former Service Chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines,
and Coast Guard. The winner of this competition will be announced on 19 November 2020
at the USO Salute to Military Chefs Virtual Award Ceremony and recognized as the
Inter-Service Enlisted Aide of the Year.
4. Also warranting special recognition are the following SCAs for their outstanding
contributions to the Coast Guard,  SCA program, and Culinary Specialist Rating:
    a. CSC Ivana Ford (runner up) - RADM Hayes - JIATF-West
    b. CS1 James Henson - RADM Nadeau (D8)
    c. CS1 Amanda Harris - RADM Vogt (D13)
    d. CS2 Aaron Reyes - VADM Poulin (LANTAREA)
    e. CSC Michael Edwards - ADM Schultz (Commandant)
5. A special thanks is also extended to the SCA of the Year Selection Panel,
which consisted of the following members:
    a. LT Samuel Paone - Base New Orleans - Prior SCA for 4 years and prior
award recipient
    b. CWO3 Stephen Bishop - CG Community Services Command - Prior SCA for 7 years
and prior award recipient
    c. CWO2 Dustin Webb - COMDT (CG-411) - Prior SCA for 5 years

    e. CWO2 Melvin Acevedo - Base Miami Beach - prior SCA for 8 years

6. Congratulations to all of the nominees for their exceptional professionalism
as SCAs and Culinary Specialists. Each is commended for their extraordinary
performance and expertise, and all continue to set the bar high for the next
generation of the SCAs.
