Details:

  • The massive project was funded through energy cost savings and a $72.6 million Utility Energy Service Contract – the largest ever awarded by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Department of Homeland Security.

  • It will reduce overall energy consumption by 48 percent, reduce water consumption by more than 15 percent, and save the Academy more than $2 million in annual energy costs (an 80 percent reduction).

  • The project will reduce the Academy’s carbon emissions by around 7,800 metric tons of CO2 per year, equivalent to taking more than 1,600 cars off the road.

  •      The project modernized the Academy’s energy infrastructure, from the barracks to the academic laboratories. More than a dozen upgrades were completed across 30 campus buildings including replacing a fuel oil-fired boiler plant with a high-efficiency natural gas plant and also adding a combined heat and power plant that generates one megawatt of electricity onsite with a microturbine generator.
