MSIB Issue XIX Vol 066 Increased risk of shoaling

united states coast guard

Increased risk of shoaling

As a result of rapidly decreasing water levels after an extended high water, the COTP New Orleans has issued a Safety Advisory for all waters of Lower Mississippi River. Mariners are advised of the increased possibility of shoaling in the area and should use extreme caution while transiting. Mariners are advised to contact Sector New Orleans Command Center if they have additional information regarding shoaling.

Facility operators are reminded that they are to assume responsibility for maintaining safe operating conditions at their dock, which includes providing a safe berth for vessels using their dock. It is highly encouraged for all facilities to conduct a dock survey to ensure mooring vessels have sufficient water depth.
