PETALUMA, Calif. — Capt. Steven Ramassini is scheduled to replace Capt. Paul Flynn as the commanding officer of Coast Guard Training Center Petaluma, Thursday, during a change of command ceremony in Petaluma.
Rear Adm. Brian Penoyer, commander of Coast Guard Force Readiness Command in Norfolk, Virginia, is scheduled to preside over the event.
Flynn is scheduled to transfer to deputy commandant for operations in Washington, D.C., where he will serve as deputy director of international affairs.
Ramassini most recently served as the mission support branch chief within the training division of the Force Readiness Command.
The change of command ceremony is a time-honored tradition aboard ships and shore commands. It represents a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability from one individual to another. The event ensures the continuity of leadership and operations within the district's area of responsibility.
The TRACEN Petaluma commanding officer is responsible to train, develop and support leaders ready to perform Coast Guard missions. TRACEN Petaluma offers seven award-winning portfolios of training courses, in addition to hosting numerous other training courses, workshops and seminars. The seven courses of instruction include: culinary specialist, electronics technician, storekeeper, yeoman, health services technician, information systems technician and operations specialist.
The TRACEN Petaluma workforce has earned numerous awards and accolades reflecting sustained excellence in mission support. Unit awards since 2010 include: 25 awards for excellence in training from the International Society for Performance Improvement & the Association for Talent Development, the 2014 Health Care Facility of the Year, the 2014 Sustainability, Energy, & Environmental Readiness Award and the 2015 Morale, Welfare and Recreation Program.
