SUBJ: 2019 LATINA STYLE DISTINGUISHED MILITARY SERVICE AWARD
1. This ALCOAST solicits nominations for the 2019 LATINA Style Distinguished Military Service
Award recognizing women who through their service have enhanced the role of Latinas in the
U.S. Coast Guard (CG).
2. The LATINA Style Distinguished Military Service Award is open to CG active duty, reserve
and civilian personnel. The performance period is August 2018 to July 2019.
3. Active duty or reserve members will be evaluated according to the following
criteria:
a. Distinguished themselves as leaders, mentors, advocates of diversity and the full
integration of Latina women in the Armed Forces.
b. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast Guard's missions.
c. Well respected by superiors and peers as military and community leaders.
d. Represented the Hispanic community with dignity and pride.
4. Civilian personnel will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
a. Embodied the qualities that are at the core of the Coast Guard’s missions.
b. Aided in creating opportunities and careers that support and contribute to the
advancement of Hispanic Americans toward senior level positions.
c. Displayed exceptional character and represented the Hispanic community with dignity
and pride.
5. Nomination packages shall include the following:
a. A narrative describing the accomplishments warranting recognition
(single-spaced, not to exceed two pages).
b. Citation of 12 lines or less highlighting the nominee's accomplishments.
c. One-page biography of the nominee (a resume will not suffice).
d. A digital (.jpg format) head and shoulder color photograph.
e. Command cover memo with signature.
f. Award nomination transmittal form (see Point of Contact (POC) for the form).
g. Items 5.a thru 5.c must be in MS Word with 12-point font, single-spaced with one-inch
left and right margins. Documents may not be scanned or in pdf format. Do not include
Personally Identifiable Information in nomination packages.
6. Nomination packages must be forwarded, as email attachments, to the POC, no later than
July 12, 2019.
7. COMDT (CG-00H) will convene a panel to select CG honorees. The recipients' commands will
be notified by phone, followed by ALCOAST announcement. All award winners will be recognized
during the 16th Annual National LATINA Symposium on September 5, 2019 in Washington, DC.
