Coast Guard, partner agency, good Samaritans responding to downed aircraft in Prince William Sound

KODIAK, Alaska — The Coast Guard, Alaska Air National Guard and good Samaritans are responding to a report of a downed aircraft in Prince William Sound, in the vicinity of Cascade Bay 20 miles southwest of Valdez, Alaska, Tuesday.

Three people were picked up by good Samaritans and will be medevaced. Two people are being taken by an Alaska Air National Guard rescue helicopter crew to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage and the third person is being transported by a Coast Guard Station Valdez small boat crew to Whittier emergency medical services. The extent of their injuries are unknown. 

Sector Anchorage watchstanders received a report from the Cordova police department at 2 p.m., stating a Cessna A185F Skywagon crashed into Cascade Bay and all three people aboard the aircraft entered the water.

Four good Samaritan vessels arrived on scene and recovered all three people. A Coast Guard Station Valdez 45-foot Response Boat–Medium crew and a 29-foot Response Boat--Small crew arrived on scene to assist.

This is an ongoing case and updates will be announced as we learn more.
